Fellows of the Cortona Sessions have created their own New Music Concert Series, joined university faculties, entered contemporary performance programs at leading conservatories, been winners of major composition prizes, and worked alongside many of the leading voices in contemporary music today. History


The Cortona Sessions was founded in 2010 by pianist Michael Kirkendoll and flutist Mary Fukushima. Since its creation, the Sessions has seen over 200 world premiere performances and now boasts over 150 Fellows, living in the U.S., Canada, South America, China, and Europe. The Sessions enjoys a relationship with the Civitella Ranieri Foundation, whose renowned composition fellows visit Cortona to share with us, and has also hosted guest composers from the Swedish Society of Composers, and in 2015 welcomed Frederic Rzewski as its first Guest Composer-in-Residence.
